K-Jon’s Fine Jewelers has an open suitcase for San Luis Obispo's Central Coast to fill with books to support the initiation of a library at the Kitarini Maasai Children’s School in the rural Longido region of northern Tanzania (map below) where 450 children attend.
Mary Sherwin, Owner of K-Jon’s Fine Jewelers in Atascadero, visited the Kitarini school in June 2013, and was instantly captivated by the children's ability and eagerness to learn. Children age 5-14 attend the school. The goal is to fill the suitcase with 50 books, new or used. The books can be picture books, early reader chapter books, workbooks, or coloring books, preferably for readers from preschool to grade 5 in American standards.
It's as easy as...
- Round up children's books you have, or even purchase them (Preschool to 5th Grade, in English, used or new)
- Drop them off at K-Jon's (directions here)
- We'll take care of the rest!
Book donations can be brought to K-Jon’s Fine Jewelers before September 30, 2015. Roger Dery, owner of Roger Dery Gem Design, will bring the books to the Maasai Children’s school in January 2016. The books can also be brought to the store Sept. 29 and 30 when Roger will be present, hosting a Gemstone Roundtable.
